DEVOTEES 1979, I found an unopened pristine copy of this and thought you might enjoy hearing it again. I included both front and back cover scans to be printed as a CD insert. "This LP was compiled from tapes sent in by KROQ listeners during the summers of 1978 and 1979. KROQ, Rhino Records and DEVO would like to thank all the mutants who entered the Devotees contest."

KNX Memorial Day, 1982 I found this cassette in the box and wondered why I saved it. KNX is an AM all news station in Los Angeles. After listening to the cassette (only one side of a C60) I discovered at about 10 minutes into the program there is a brief interview with Exene and John Doe of X before they play at the Greek Theatre in LA. Anyhow, thought I would post it because besides the X interview it has current news and commercials of the era. Bill Keene was my traffic savior!

KROQ 02/01/1981 The Young Marquis & Stanley and the Rodney Bingenheimer Shows

I found a 2fer for you all, a double cassette set (one C90 & one C60) dated February 1, 1981. The majority of the first cassette is the Young Marquis and Stanley show before Rodney starts his show. The second cassette continues with Rodney Bingenheimer. Once again, I am disappointed to hear Rodney announce his special guests were the Adolescents and I didn't get them. If I could go back in time I would do this all differently, like record this digitally and store it on a giant hard drive, oh yeh, that didn't exist. Oh well, I'm glad I'm able to share this ultra cool stuff with all of you almost 30 years later. So I say thanks again to Rodney Bingenheimer for turning us on to music we would have not gotten to hear if it wasn't for his show. Thanks Man, You're BOSS!

OK, An early listen to the formative years of KROQ/AM&FM
Here's the great Lee Baby Simms doing his stuff during
the launch of the ROQ's, as the AM signal merged into one (or two) giants with the FM signal, ahhh, shit, I'm confused again.

Timmy comes up with the coolest stuff!
A little background about this recording... I don't know what city you are in, or where you used to live, but I'm from L.A., California. In the early 1970's, there was an FM radio station out here by the call letters of KROQ/AM & FM. They had a wild cast of on-air jocks, including a Sunday night show hosted by Flo & Eddie (Turtles & Frank Zappa fame). On thier show, for 3 hours, they would play only bits of old records, sometimes mere seconds worth, & merge them together intertwining the records & mixing them for a segment, say about 15 - 20 minutes, then talk for about the same length of time. They would feature live guests each week. Then the station went through personnel changes, & they had to leave KROQ. Fortunately, there was also another free-form formatted FM station in L.A., KMET/FM. So, Flo & Eddie wound up there in 1974. This is thier first show on KMET/FM, with thier guest, Harry Nilsson. Flo & Eddie dominate the spoken portions of this "interview", but you can tell Harry is having fun. I believe Shadoe is operating the board.
The zip file has 3 parts, that's the way my reel to reel tapes recorded this show back when it was broadcast. I thought you might like this.
Thanx again & hope you enjoy, Timmy

We've got a real treat for you!
I got home from work last week and found a package in my mailbox from Timmy. The box contained four cassettes labeled
KROQ Shadoe Stevens 1977.
Like WOW!
So here for your listening pleasure is
Shadoe Stevens at the mike on KROQ in 1977. I think my favorite is side 2 of the 08/01/77 tape because KROQ is celebrating it's one year anniversary by giving away pipes, bongs and for one lucky listener a custom stereo system. So if you thought the first year was something, watch out LA!
Thanks Timmy!

That's right, Rodney has his old chum Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits fame as his guest. They reminisce about the early days and play Peter's new album with the Tremblers.
You've got to listen to the entire show because it just gets better and better as the show goes on, a lot of gems get played and I don't mean just the old Herman's Hermits hits.
Note: This show complements my first post which was "KROQ 08/24/80 Rodney Bingenheimer celebrates his 4th year anniversary" (see below), because it was recorded the evening before.

Another excellent Rodney show. Rodney starts by announcing the Circle Jerks are coming by to be his guests but I didn't get that part of the show, sorry. What I did get was Wendy O. Williams calling in and talking about the brutal beatings that took place after their Milwaukee show and the continuing harassment and arrest that occurred in Cleveland. Towards the end of the tape Brendan Mullen stops by to talk. Rodney and Brendan talk about the Masque, Tiny and
a new magazine Brendan is publishing. What I want to know is whatever happened to that girl that would call in whenever Rodney played Springtime for Hitler?

This tape is a hodge podge of different shows. The date on the label says May of 1981 but I'm not so sure. It starts out with a Rodney show and Rodney has two of the original members of the Surfaris as his guests. They play the original long version of Surfer Joe and lots of other cool surf tunes. The tape then goes to Frazer Smith, then the Woodside and towards the end The Waitresses come into the studio and talk about their upcoming show at Perkins Palace. Its all good stuff.
